Post-Election Reflections: Choosing Kindness Over Division

The election season is always a stressful ride. Now that it’s behind us, there are many different emotions across the board—some people are feeling energized, others disappointed, and a lot of us are just plain exhausted. Regardless of where you stand or how you feel about the outcome, there’s something I know for sure: we all need to be way kinder to each other.

We are a diverse tapestry of people, coming in every shape, size, and color. And not one of these makes any of us “better” than the other. We’re all different shades of humanity, and we’re all equally deserving of love, respect, and acceptance. At a time when it’s easy to feel frustrated or tense, we need to remember that hatred is not a place where any of us can thrive. Hatred stems from fear—and as they say, “The only thing to fear is fear itself.”

People who cling to anger or resentment carry a darkness that clouds their lives, affecting not only their relationships with others but also their own ability to find peace and happiness. Only when we begin to approach life and other people with curiosity and kindness do we genuinely start to grow.

So, here’s a challenge for us all: try stepping into the shoes of someone who holds an entirely different view from your own. Approach them with openness. Ask questions not to argue or prove a point but to truly understand their experiences and their perspective. There’s a real difference between hearing someone out and actually listening to them.

As we move forward, let’s try to listen with an open heart, and remember that we’re all here sharing the same world. Be good to others, yes—but above all, be good to yourself. Kindness starts with how we treat ourselves, and it spreads to those around us. So let’s choose kindness, understanding, and love, and let that be our guiding force as we continue moving forward together.
